Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Jochen Cerny draws upon a rich artistic lineage that shaped his distinctive visual language. His grandmother, an avid black-and-white photographer, instilled in him a fascination for detail and tonal nuance, while his father’s close collaborations with iconic figures such as Charles Wilp introduced him to the creative synergy between art and commerce.
Although his professional journey initially led him into international banking, Jochen’s true calling — photographic art — never faded. A meaningful reunion with childhood friend and world-renowned photographer Andreas Gursky rekindled this passion, affirming his creative potential and inspiring him to fully dedicate himself to his artistic career.
