Robert Havell Jr. (1793–1878) was an English engraver, printmaker, and painter born in Reading, Berkshire, England. He is best known for producing the magnificent hand-colored engravings for John James Audubon's The Birds of America, one of the most celebrated works in natural history illustration. Working closely with Audubon, Havell transformed the artist's original drawings into highly detailed prints that captured the beauty and characteristics of North American bird species. He later immigrated to the United States, settling in Ossining, New York, where he continued painting landscapes and exploring the American countryside. His technical mastery and artistic contributions played a vital role in preserving Audubon's legacy.
