About The Artwork

At the bottom of the garden just outside the artists studio grow the flowers Known as Snakes Head Fritillaries, these have a uniquely geometric pattern (back lit by the sun) that seems at odds with their organic nature. The Abstract quality of the garden undergrowth enables the artist to play with compositional ideas and place the flowers where necessary to create the bast dynamic for the painting.

Born in Manchester. Studied art in Blackpool and Newcastle. Worked in the building trade for a decade, began teaching art in Leicester.

Artists Statement

Expressing light through color and the arrangement of form are as important as the representation of the scene. Chris Macauley is not a subject specific painter. Whether he is working on still life, portraiture or landscape, he is always trying to discover what the painting is about; the object matter is not really the subject matter.
