Self Portrait #10 by Cody Choi transforms an ordinary hotel room into a stage of quiet rebellion. Captured mid-air above an unmade bed, the figure appears weightless, suspended between comfort and tension. The soft window light illuminates the moment, revealing the folds in the sheets and the subtle shadows that anchor the viewer to reality. The contrast of stillness and motion invites reflection on identity in transient spaces, where rest and movement coexist.

About The Artwork

Shot while dancing around the world with Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake for three years, this is Cody's first series within the "Self Portrait" collection - an ongoing photography project that Cody has started since 2007 while he’s dancing around the world with Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake to capture his moments in time as inspired by places where his professional dance career has taken him to.

About the artist

Cody’s photography journey started as he toured and danced the world with Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake for 3 years. While on the road, he started capturing different places, theatres and fellow dancers on his camera. His main focus now lies on capturing the graceful movements of dancers mid movement. 

​Cody has worked with Samsung TV and Ben Sherman in the past.
His exhibition history includes the , Affordable Art Fair in Hong Kong, Singapore, London , The Other Art Fair exhibiting with Saatchi Art in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Bristol, The London Design Fair,  G&M Design Gallery Monaco with Imitate Modern, UIL restaurant @ Notting Hill London and, TaiPei101.
