About the artist

Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837–1908) was an American landscape and marine painter associated with the Hudson River School and the American Luminist movement. He was best known for his serene coastal scenes, depicting rocky shorelines, sandy beaches, calm waters, and sailing vessels. Bricher's paintings are distinguished by their detailed natural settings, soft light, and tranquil atmosphere. His careful rendering of water, sky, and sunlight helped establish him as one of the notable American painters of coastal landscapes during the nineteenth century.
