About The Artwork

This work is inspired by OBEY's work, called “ Make Art Not War ”, which in turn looked at pacifist slogans in 1960s America. Here, I replaced most of the original elements of the composition with vintage LEGO pieces.

About the artist

Stefano Bolcato lives and works in Rome. He started as a self-taught in the 80s, later he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with Alfonso Avanessian and Giovanni Arcangeli at the Ornamental Arts School in Rome. His academic artistic training was based on life drawing, plastic modeling and painting. His path passed through the study of the great masters of art history. In the first production period, he worked in an original way on classic painting themes such as the figure, landscape and still life. Since 2006 he began using elements of the Lego game to create the compositions of his paintings, initially to deal with highly topical social issues, such as crime, domestic violence and the economic crisis. In 2014, again through the use of Lego mini figures, he shifted his attention to there interpretation of more or less famous works in the history of art, his painting in this way takes on a decidedly POP form. In recent years, portraits of famous figures of our time have been added
