About the artist

Earl Horter (1881–1940) was an American painter, printmaker, illustrator, teacher, and art collector born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was known for his detailed etchings and aquatints depicting urban landscapes, architecture, and city life. Largely self-taught, Horter studied etching in New York and later became an art director in Philadelphia. He also gained recognition for collecting modern art, particularly Cubist works, helping introduce modernism to the Philadelphia art community. His works were exhibited in major American art institutions, and he remained active in Philadelphia until his death in 1940.
