Lotus Sutra
Descriptions:
Lotus Sutra by Anan Thathamma is an original oil on canvas that celebrates awakening through vibrant movement. Measuring 47.24 x 47.24 inches, this work is alive with spiraling forms that bloom across the surface like petals in constant transformation. Deep indigo and radiant violet meet flashes of emerald, gold, and magenta, creating a visual rhythm that feels both fluid and intentional.
The layered brushwork forms tactile ridges and glowing pathways, inviting the viewer to trace each contour as if following a chant. The composition evokes renewal and inner balance, mirroring the lotus that rises from murky waters to find light. Beneath the interplay of color lies a quiet message of resilience and clarity. Lotus Sutra becomes a meditation in paint, offering a powerful focal point for collectors who value art that carries symbolic depth and emotional presence.

About The Artwork
expand_more
The Lotus Sutra is one of the most influential and venerated Buddhist scriptures which emphasises the potential for all beings to attain enlightenment. It teaches the concept of “One Vehicle,” suggesting that all Buddhist paths ultimately lead to the same truth and enlightenment, regardless of individual differences. In this painting, I've channeled my fascination with the fluidity of time and the interconnectedness of life into a vibrant dance of colours. Using oil on canvas, I've sculpted a symphony of swirling motifs that evoke the mysterious depths of the cosmos and the inner workings of the mind.

About the artist

Anan Thathamma was born in Prachinburi, Thailand, in 1969, where he spent the first 12 years of his schooling immersed in Buddhist teachings and Sanskrit studies while living in a temple. It was during this formative period that he developed a profound appreciation for art,
particularly religious and spiritual art.
Upon moving to Bangkok at the age of 18, Anan embarked on a journey to pursue his passion for art. Working in various roles to support himself, he sought formal art education at the esteemed Alliance Française. Anan's artistic journey reached a milestone with his debut public
exhibition, hosted at the prestigious Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok. The
exhibition garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, setting the
stage for his burgeoning career.
Subsequently, Anan's artwork gained recognition within the expatriate and international community through a members-only exhibition at the British Club of Bangkok. Embraced by Thailand's King Rama IX Art Foundation, he was selected to represent Thai contemporary art
on a global stage.
Anan's artistic process is deeply rooted in meditation and spirituality. Each
performance begins with meditative preparation, during which he paints with his
thumb, delving into a trance-like state until the artwork is completed. His
paintings serve as intricate cosmological narratives, seamlessly blending
figurative and abstract elements to evoke labyrinthine landscapes of the mind.
