Heart Sutra
Descriptions:
Heart Sutra by Anan Thathamma is an original oil on canvas that draws the viewer into a radiant center of calm. Measuring 47.24 x 47.24 inches, the work surrounds a deep blue core with swirling, sculptural color that seems to pulse with life. The luminous pigments form layered spirals that rise like petals, flames, and waves, creating a rhythm that feels both cosmic and intimate.
The composition speaks to the heart as a source of stillness within movement. Vibrant magenta, emerald, violet, and gold converge around the central void, suggesting breath, mindfulness, and the space required for clarity. The tactile surfaces and intricate pathways of paint encourage close inspection, revealing hidden textures and subtle transitions of light. Heart Sutra becomes a meditative focal point for collectors who value art that honors inner resilience, connection, and spiritual presence.

About The Artwork
expand_more
The Heart Sutra is an ancient Buddhist text which revolves around the concept of sunyata (emptiness), asserting that all things, including perceptions, thoughts, and forms, lack independent existence and are interconnected. “Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form.” In this painting, I've explored the vivid terrain between abstract geometry and symbolic depth, drawing inspiration from visions of the future blended with ancient wisdom. Swirls of iridescent colours evoke cosmic energy, intertwining in dynamic, seemingly endless loops that suggest infinity. This artwork embodies transformation and mystery, aiming to inspire viewers to contemplate the unseen depths of existence.

About the artist

Anan Thathamma was born in Prachinburi, Thailand, in 1969, where he spent the first 12 years of his schooling immersed in Buddhist teachings and Sanskrit studies while living in a temple. It was during this formative period that he developed a profound appreciation for art,
particularly religious and spiritual art.
Upon moving to Bangkok at the age of 18, Anan embarked on a journey to pursue his passion for art. Working in various roles to support himself, he sought formal art education at the esteemed Alliance Française. Anan's artistic journey reached a milestone with his debut public
exhibition, hosted at the prestigious Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok. The
exhibition garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, setting the
stage for his burgeoning career.
Subsequently, Anan's artwork gained recognition within the expatriate and international community through a members-only exhibition at the British Club of Bangkok. Embraced by Thailand's King Rama IX Art Foundation, he was selected to represent Thai contemporary art
on a global stage.
Anan's artistic process is deeply rooted in meditation and spirituality. Each
performance begins with meditative preparation, during which he paints with his
thumb, delving into a trance-like state until the artwork is completed. His
paintings serve as intricate cosmological narratives, seamlessly blending
figurative and abstract elements to evoke labyrinthine landscapes of the mind.
