About the artist

Laurits Andersen Ring (1854–1933), commonly known as L.A. Ring, was a Danish painter renowned for his realistic depictions of rural life, landscapes, and everyday scenes in Denmark. Born in the village of Ring in southern Zealand, Denmark, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Ring became an important figure in Danish Realism and Symbolism, portraying the lives of ordinary people, agricultural workers, and rural communities with careful attention to detail. His paintings often explored themes of social inequality, human existence, and the passage of time. He was also known for his depictions of Danish countryside settings, village streets, and changing seasons. Through his distinctive use of light, composition, and atmosphere, Ring helped shape modern Danish painting and is remembered as one of Denmark's most significant artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
