About the artist
Ohara Koson (1877–1945) was a Japanese painter and printmaker known for his exquisite bird-and-flower woodblock prints. Born in Kanazawa, Japan, he studied traditional Japanese painting before becoming a prominent artist in the shin-hanga movement, which revived and modernized traditional Japanese woodblock printing in the early 20th century. Koson created detailed and elegant depictions of birds, flowers, and wildlife, combining naturalistic observation with the refined aesthetics of Japanese art. His prints gained popularity internationally, particularly in the United States and Europe, and his works are now held in major museum collections worldwide.
