About the artist
Nina M. Davies (1881–1965) was a British artist and archaeological illustrator born Anna Macpherson Cummings in Salonika, Greece. She trained as an artist in London before traveling to Egypt, where she met and later married Egyptologist Norman de Garis Davies. She became renowned for her precise and detailed reproductions of ancient Egyptian tomb paintings, documenting scenes, inscriptions, and daily life from the tombs of Thebes. Working for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other institutions, she produced numerous facsimile paintings that helped preserve important records of ancient Egyptian art and culture. Her work remains valuable to Egyptologists and art historians studying ancient Egyptian civilization.
