Collapsing Wave
Descriptions:
Collapsing Wave by Chris Macauley is an original oil on canvas measuring 47.24 x 16.14 inches. The work captures the moment a wave breaks, where power and release merge into a veil of mist and shifting color. Layers of soft blues, pale greys, and frothing white surf dissolve into each other, recalling the sensation of standing at the shoreline as the ocean pulls and returns.
The horizon is reduced to a suggestion, inviting quiet contemplation and a reminder of nature’s rhythm. This seascape balances movement and stillness, creating a meditative atmosphere that offers collectors both serenity and emotional depth.

About The Artwork
expand_more
This is from a series of three paintings of the sea. The scene is from the beech in Nice and the painting is more a study of the range of muted blues, greens and purples that can be found, resisting the urge to use intense blues that you think can be found on the Mediterranean. A moment in time that took many hours to recreate.

Artists Statement
Expressing light through color and the arrangement of form are as important as the representation of the scene. Chris Macauley is not a subject specific painter. Whether he is working on still life, portraiture or landscape, he is always trying to discover what the painting is about; the object matter is not really the subject matter.
