Arriving before dawn, I made my way along the rocky trail as Yosemite Valley woke around me, the air dense with pine resin and waterfall mist. The challenge was real: shooting a vertical panorama at close range through thick forest demanded patience, precision, and a willingness to let the trees dictate the composition. The narrow gap I ultimately found became the frame itself, the dark silhouettes of towering pines acting as natural borders that draw every eye directly to the brilliant, falling water at the center. Choosing black and white was both a technical and emotional decision. Color flatters Yosemite. Monochrome reveals it. The full tonal range of this image, from the near-black shadows of the forest floor to the glowing silver ribbon of falling water, carries the quiet authority of the valley the Ahwahneechee called home for centuries. They named this fall Pohono, the Spirit of the Puffing Wind, a name that honors its character far better than any landmark designation ever could. In a high-tech world dominated by speed and distraction, we rarely pause to acknowledge that humans are not the center of the Earth. We share this fragile planet with countless creatures, yet we often notice nature only when it inconveniences us.Through my camera, I choose to notice. My work spans environmental wildlife, fine art landscapes, and signature collections from Yosemite and Lake Tahoe capturing the fleeting brilliance of sunrise, dramatic twilight, and classic black and white forms. Ultimately, my photography is a reminder of our true place in the cosmos. We are all human and animal alike striving to survive on a wet rock wrapped in a thin atmosphere, orbiting a star. My fine art prints invite viewers to slow down, reconnect with the wild spaces around us, and protect the fragile ecosystem that sustains us all.
